In the dawn’s early light on October 14, 2020, Gregory Lee Young heard the whisper of our Savior call his name, and transitioned quietly into everlasting life. “Gregory, we called him was born on August 4, 1958, to Mrs. Georgia M. Young and the late Deacon Franklin D. Young, Sr. of Magee, MS. As a young boy he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor William Roland in Albany, New York; After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the National Guard program of basic training. He work various jobs until deciding to further his education. He enrolled in Hudson Valley Community College where he earned an Associates of Applied Science and then onto Russell Sage College where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology/Psychology. He continued to pursue his Master’s degree while working in his chosen profession a Case Manager/Social Worker at St. Peter Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Albany, New York until his health failed him. Greg enjoyed his work and was humbled by his calling. He formed lasting relationships with his clients. He met the love of his life, Ms. Miriam Torres and was united in holy matrimony on July 16, 2003. He loved and adored his wife. He often said, “She is the best part of me. He leaves to mourn his passing a loving wife, Miriam; his devoted mother, Georgia Young; his sister, Carolyn Johnson, all of Magee, MS; two sons, Kinte Durr and Cedrick Young; one brother-in-law, Joe G. Johnson (Carolyn) of Magee, MS; three aunts, Ola Kirksey of Silas, AL; Polly Watson and Nettie Hubbard of Schenectady, New York; two uncles, Deacon Harry Howard and Deacon Henry Howard of Albany, Mew York; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding him in death, his father Deacon Franklin D. Young, Sr.; brothers Gary Lee Young and Franklin D. Young, Jr. Although his passing leaves a void in our hearts, it gives us peace that he is at rest after a long illness. God shared His grace and mercy upon us. Greg’s favorite saying was, “Why put a question mark, where God put a period.” Greg has persevered in the trials and challenges enforced in his lifetime. Rest easy Greg, you deserve your rest and march triumphantly to glory.
