Obituary For James Harris Brooker Sr.

Services for James Harris Brooker Sr., 83, of 439 Susan Street Allendale, SC will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Allendale Community Funeral Home with Reverend Bernice Graves officiating.

Due to the precautions regarding social distancing the service will be private.

Mr. James Harris Brooker, Sr., was born in Allendale, South Carolina, on May 19, 1937, to the late Henry Mathis Brooker and Estelle Bing Brant.

Mr. Brooker was educated in the public schools of Allendale County, where he worked hard to receive his high school diploma.

He was employed with Dixie Narco Inc., in Willston, South Carolina, and later with Collum’s Lumber Products in Allendale, South Carolina.

He enjoyed reading, watching the news, and farming in his garden. Spending time with his family made him happy, and he would always take them fishing and cruising around in his car. He often told many jokes to keep them laughing. He was very fond of his grandchildren, and they were the loves of his life.

He passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at his residence

He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta Youmans Brooker; and two brothers, Benjamin Brooker and Roger Brooker.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories: his children, Tonya (Nathaniel) Brooker of Chesapeake, Virginia, Harriet Brooker of Warrenville, South Carolina, James (Marquita) Brooker, Jr., of Forest City, North Carolina, and Benny Brooker of Charlotte, North Carolina; three sisters, Sara Mae Washington of Allendale, South Carolina, Jeanette (Ronnie) Hart of Brooklyn, New York, and Isabell Adell of Matawan, New Jersey; brothers-in-law, James (Aretha) Grant, Arthur (Mildrue) Grant, Naemon (Brenda) Youmans, Johnny Grant, and Thomas (Eunice) Williams, all of Allendale, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Dixie Brooker, Mary Ann (Eddie) Fields, Martha (George) Fullington, Rena Raysor, Blossie Williams, Deselena Woods, Vernia Badger, Patrica Ann Cave, and Eva (Patterson) Moses, all of Allendale, South Carolina; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

My uncle loved to share stories and jokes, but he took the longest route getting to the end or the punch line. As a child, I laughed, but as an adult, I now know that he stretched it out just to spend more time with us. Benny, Harriet, Tanya & Jun treasure your memories of him. My heart is heavy and saddened; but, I carry so many wonderful memories of Uncle James. His laughter, his joy of never wanting to end a phone conversation or wanting me to leave when I came to visit.
