Obituary For Lorine Thurmond Morgan

Lorine Thurmond Morgan, 87, died Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at home with family.

Visitation Tuesday October 20, 2020 10am – 12 noon. Funeral private at 12 noon. Burial Petersburg Newburg Cemetery.

Lorine Morgan was born in Gates, Tennessee on February 2, 1933, to her parents, Andrew “Andy” Thurmond and Mammie Lee Thurmond.

Lorine accepted Christ, and was baptized at an early age while attending St. Mark Baptist Church in Gates, Tennessee.

It was in Gates, Tennessee, where Lorine met and married Charles Lee Morgan before moving to Louisville, Kentucky in 1966. To this loving union, nine children were born.

Lorine is best remembered for her loving devotion to her husband, and their nine children. Alongside her husband, Lorine nurtured and guided her children and grandchildren with unconditional love. Her unconditional love extended to caring for her parents during their latter years of life. Lorine, who was also known as “Momma”, “Big Momma”, “Momma Morgan”, and “Aunt Lorine”, has been described by family members, as their teacher, nurse, and counselor. With endearing motherly wit and wisdom, she imparted life lessons in plain spoken English. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing with grandkids, and playing the piano. Lorine was a phenomenal wife, mother, and grandmother with everlasting love.

Lorine was preceded in death by her parents, Andy & Mammie Tapplar Thurmond; her dearly departed husband of 57 years, Charles Lee Morgan; Sister, Lula Mae Hicks; Brothers, Charles (Helen), and Joe Willie Thurmond (Jean); Brothers In-Law, Willie Strayhorn, Jack Johnson, R. T. Maddox, Lenter T, Booker T., and Jack Morgan; Sisters In-Law, Fannie Mae Morgan, Izola Eisom, Johnson Lee Johnson, and Lucy Mae Morgan; Son In-Law, Ronald Smith; and Grandchildren, Monique Smith and Aumikko Morgan

On Wednesday, October 14, 2020, Lorine left her earthly home to be with her Heavenly Father. She leaves to cherish her memories, Sons, Ricky Morgan “Bubba”; Richard Morgan “Ned” (Kathryn); Steve Morgan, Sr. (Sherry); Barron Morgan (Janice); Tracy Morgan (Angie); Daughters, Brindell Smith, Carmen Butrum (Terry); Thea Sisay, and Tareka Morgan; Sisters, Ruthie Jacox (Cedell); and Eula Strayhorn; Brother, Otha B. Thurmond (Sandra); and Brother In-Law, Robert Hicks; 38 Grandchildren; 62 Great Grandchildren; 7 Great- Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
