Obituary For Herman Sheats

Herman Sheats, age 81, of Athens, GA passed October 25, 2020.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday October 30, 2020 at the graveside of Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Public viewing, Thursday 12-6 PM, at the funeral home.

Survivors include: his wife, Candace Sheats; daughters, Stephanie (Shawn)Sheats Dinwiddie and Barbara "Babs" Sheats; grandchildren, Shawn Jayce Dinwiddie and Shanlee Dinwiddie; siblings, Fannie (Robert) Williams, Dewey (Patricia) Sheats, Patricia (Harrison) Dowdy, Lillie Teasley, Lashelle Parrish, Frank (Sharon) Sheats, Judy Sheats and Michael Sheats; sisters in law, Onell Sheats and Simone Sheats; brother in law, George H. Johnson; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr Herman Sheats was such a kind man. My mom and I had a routine every other Saturday. Stop at Katherines Kitchen and then head to get our hair done. I always loved going there listening to the grown folks talking and just me being a nosey child. The Sheats are definitely pillars in the community and Mr Herman Sheats will be missed. Herman was my grandfather, a truly inspirational one at that. From the two decades that I've known him, he's shown me what it means to be kind, lively, and respectful to others. I share endless memories with my him, whether it was the big things like teaching me how to drive or something so small as picking me up from elementary school; I cherished every moment spent with him. His love and presence makes me eternally grateful for everything that he has done for me, and my sister Shanlee. Being in his legacy inspires me to work harder and prove that life is truly what you make of it. Herman lived a long and loving life, and I'm so grateful for being apart of it. He was a staple not just for my family, but for the Athens community and his friends. He is truly my hero.

Herman has been a best friend over the decades that I will miss as a brother. we were two of the best black business owners in Athens, GA. I feel like a member of the family. His brother, Jimmy played sax along with Robert Billups in my band, The Twisters, for years. Dewey and I continued to come together and talk over the years. One of the joys in my life was meeting and becoming family to Herman and Candy Sheats. God puts people in our path for a reason. Rest In Peace, Herman and know that I will keep an eye out of Candice.
