James moved to Charlotte, NC and later Washington, DC; Lanham, Maryland; and Laurel, Maryland. Never married, James was a loving brother, uncle and friend to many. James retired from the Giant Grocery Store chain.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Columbus C. Freeman and Onnie Wilkins Freeman; his siblings, Clyde Freeman, Ruby Dodd, Geneva Turner, Charlie Freeman, Columbus Freeman, Georgia Logan, Lillian Wilkins, Mary Freeman and Lee Freeman.
He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew who was like a brother, Ozzie Freeman, (deceased) and his wife Carolyn Freeman. Their family provided assistance during the last several years of his life.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 1:00 PM at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 194 Saint Johns Church Road, Lake Lure, NC 28746 with Rev. Theodore “Leroy” Kelly, Jr. officiating. Burial will take place at the church cemetery. There will be a viewing at the graveside from 12:00 PM until 12:45 PM.
