Deacon Carter was a very soft spoken humble man. I can remember him assisting me with my first pair of florsheim dress shoes at McCollum Ferrell. While lacing them up for me He said if a mans feet hurt his whole body hurts. Being age 12 at the time I didn't know what he was alluding to. However now I'm very thankful for the lesson he taught me and many others. May God continue to comfort the Carter family during this difficult time. Jonte' Watkins

Our thoughts are with the Carter family that we have such fond memories and were always part of the McCollum-Ferrell family. After the shoe store in Martinsville closed, I remember Nathaniel bringing his wife to South Boston,Va for shoes only to find the shoe store very busy and shorthanded for help. Nathaniel did not think twice but jumped to assist until everyone was taken care of. He often came down and reminisced with me about the past years in the shoe business. What a gentle giant he was. He will be truly missed! David McCollum McCollum-Ferrell Shoes
