Obituary For Odessa "Ms. D." Jemison

Graveside service for Ms. Odessa "Ms. D." Jemison, 73, will be 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at Midway Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

Ms. Odessa Jemison began life’s journey on Thursday, July 17, 1947, in Talladega, Alabama to the union of Ben Roberson and Velma Jemison.

Ms. Jemison united with Rocky Mount Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where she was a member of the choir. Odessa was a graduate of Talladega County Training School. She began her professional career at Shocco Springs and then dedicated 26 years in food service to Talladega College. When Odessa was not working, she enjoyed cooking at home for her family, mothering and cooking for her neighborhood children and going to the casino.

On Tuesday, November 10, 2020, Odessa began her eternal journey at East Alabama Medical Center. She was preceded on this journey by her parents, Ben Roberson and Velma Jemison; grandmother, Hattie Mae Groce Jemison; two brothers, Samuel Jemison and Ben Roberson, Jr.; four sisters, Hattie Mae Maxwell, Lessie Edison, Annie Pearl Whitson and Mary Chatman; one grandson, Mikel Jemison; one granddaughter, Lashannon Jemison; and one son-in-law, Anthony Wallace.

Odessa leaves to celebrate her life: three daughters, Angela Jemison, Lashon Wallace and Teresa Jemison all of Talladega, Alabama; three sons, Travis (Debra) Jemison, Rodney Jemison and Bruce Jemison all of Talladega, Alabama; thirteen grandchildren; one sister, Nellie Roberson; two brothers, George (Janice) Jemison of Columbus, Georgia and Eugene Jemison; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
