Obituary For Susan M. Dandridge

Susan Marshall Dandridge, 102, of Martinsville, Virginia transitioned from Earth to Glory on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at her residence. She was born on July 14, 1918 Henry County, VA, to the late John Obie and Martha Hope Marshall.

Susan is survived by two sons, James Marshall and Robert Marshall of Danville, Virginia; one step-daughter, Mamie Geter of Martinsville; sister, Amy Hairston of Martinsville; eighteen grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, two special friends and caregivers, Rosabelle Holmes and Ettie Collins, and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was a faithful member at First United Church of Jesus Christ and attended Agape Bible Christian Fellowship in Martinsville, VA. Susan loved her pastor, Elder Harold Arnold, and the Chestnut Knob community. She was very involved in community events and was a member of the Chestnut Knob Ruritan Club. After retiring from American Furniture, she attended two different Senior Citizens Clubs regularly. At the age of 101 she started attending Edwards Adult Daycare and looked forward to being there daily, enjoying the interactions with others, the bus ride and receiving compliments of her dressed-up appearance. Ms. Susan started driving late in life, to everyone’s surprise, but she did not stop driving until she was 98 years old.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Beverly Dandridge; son, John Obie Holmes; three sisters, Charity Elizabeth Lewis of Washington, DC, Sterling Leeks of Detroit, Michigan, and Mabel Williams of Greensboro, North Carolina; two brothers, Nelson Marshall and Dana Marshall of Martinsville, Virginia and four grandchildren.

A grave-side service for Susan will be held on Sunday, November 15,2020 at 12:00 noon at Carver Memorial Gardens with Rev. Dr. Dion Noel, officiating. A public viewing will be held on Saturday, November 14,2020 at Hairston Funeral Home Chapel, 301 Fayette Street, Martinsville, Virginia from 1 until 5. In accordance with the CDC guidelines a face covering and social distancing will be required.
