TRUSTEE ALVIS DUNSON, SR, known to all as “Dick”, was called to rest on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at his residence, Bracey, VA. He was the son of the late James Robert and Aldeaner “Alta” Mayo Dunson, born November 20, 1937 in Mecklenburg County, VA. He was also preceded in death by his siblings- James Elijah “Bubba”, Andrew Eugene “Jim”, Louis Edward, Sarndus and McLenzie “Mack”, and Carolyn Deverne Dunson Alston. At an early age he was baptized and joined Roanoke Zion RZUA Church, Bracey, VA. He was an active member serving on the Trustee Board, Pastor’s Aide and the Graveyard Committee. He was a faithful member until the Lord called him home. He attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools. He continued his education at Southside Community College, where he received his CDL License. His first job was at Butler Lumber Company, Brodnax, VA. In 1963 he moved to New York where he worked at the furniture company and drove taxi cabs. He later moved back to Virginia and began working at Ollie’s Service Station and Automatic Transmission at the truck stop in Bracey, VA. His last job was with L.P. Duggar Company for thirty plus years. He was a dedicated employee and became close friends of the owners before he decided to semi-retire. One of the joys in his early years was driving his motorcycle with his buddy, Elenon Whittle across the United States. He loved working on cars as well as riding around visiting everyone. He was a well-loved member of the Bracey and surrounding communities and he will be greatly missed. Dick is survived by his five children- Mornita (Jeffrey)Dunson-Coleman, Middletown, NY; Alvis (Roseanne) Dunson, Jr., Arlington, VA; Russell (Angela) Dunson, Fairfax, VA; Brenda Macklin-Walker, Richmond, VA and Shamar Clary of the home, Bracey, VA; nine grandchildren- Jeremy, Adrian, Aaron, Raevin, Raurie, Michael, Christina, Cannon and a special granddaughter, “Sharniece,”; six great-grandchildren; children he helped raise- Crystal and Christopher “Dale” Edmonds; four sisters- Florence Macklin, Bracey, VA; his twin sister- Alma Macklin, Clarksville, VA; Rosa Mae Dunson, of the home,Bracey, VA and Beatrice Howell, Oxon Hill, MD; two sisters-in-law, Carrie “Sally” Dunson, Bracey, VA and Magnolia Dunson, South Hill, VA; one brother-in-law, James Alston, Chesterfield, VA; his very special friend of twenty plus years, Lorraine Edmonds; devoted friends-Leslie Valentine, Thomas Hart “Bubba”, James Harris and special nephew- Joe Anthony Macklin, as well as a lot of truck driving friends, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
