Mr. Jimmie died peacefully with his loving wife of 51 years by his side on Monday, November 23, 2020 after a brief illness. Mr. Dalton was one of nine children born to the late Frank Morris and Lillie Carleen Dalton. He was a member of the 1966 graduating class of Charles R. Drew High School. On November 8, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart. This union produced two sons, Marc and Todd. Jimmie was a hard worker all his life. He was employed by Miller Brewing of Eden, NC for 20 plus years. After leaving Miller Brewing Co., he became self-employed running his own towing service. Though he was constantly working to provide for his family, he found time to serve his community. He served two terms on the Madison Board of Alderman, once as Pro-Tem and once as Treasurer. He was a member of the Madison ABC Board and most recently a member of the Madison Human Relations Board. he believed strongly in social justice and the fair treatment of all people. His last bigt act of civic engagement was his participation in the taking care of those less fortunate and often helped provide meals at the homeless shelter as well as sponsor his famous car show that helped to raise money for charitable causes. Jimmie was a member of Madison Masonic Lodge #563. He was also a long time member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee, President of the United Methodist Men, as usher and in various other positions over the years. One of his favorite activities was passing out candy on Sunday morning after service. These treats were not only enjoyed by children but adults as well. Jimmie never met a stranger. He would speak to everyone, developing many friendships as he traveled all over the area in is rollback truck. Jimmie was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie H. Dalton (Roselle).
When he transitioned to be with the Lord, he left to carry on his love and commitment to people to his wife of 51 years, Cornelia; two sons; Dr. Marc Dalton of Washington, DC and Todd Dalton (Azure'e) of Madison, NC, three granddaughters; Tamia, Trinity and Talent, six sisters; Bernice Dalton of Baltimore, MD, Janette Brown of Ridgeway, VA, Rosetta Welch of Mayodan, NC, Evelyn Wadelington (Billy) of Pine Hall, NC, Patricia Hairston of Walnut Cove, NC and Cynthia Dalton of Mayodan, NC, brother; Alfonza Dalton of Stoneville, NC, a large loving family not limited to but including several nieces, nephews and cousins. Finally, Jimmie has left many friends who will remember his laugh and big heart. May you Rest in Peace until we are united again.
