Obituary For Sammie Kistler

Sammie Lee Kistler, 81, passed away peacefully on November 23rd, 2020 in Bowie, Texas.

Sammie’s remains will be placed in the Newport Cemetery. Due to the pandemic there will not be a service at this time.

Sammie was born August 9th, 1939 in Newport, TX to William Arthur Kistler and Dollie May (Williams) Kistler. Sammie was born in Newport but was a resident of Bowie, for much of his life, and always considered Bowie his home! Sammie resided for the past six years at the Advanced Rehabilitation and Healthcare of Bowie where he became close friends with companion Marjory. Sammie’s family is forever grateful to the wonderful staff at ARHB for their compassionate commitment during Sammie’s years of residence.

Sammie spent much of his life working on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. As a younger man, Sammie served his country in the United States Army and was a proud Veteran. Sammie was an avid coin collector. He spent ten of his senior years living in Maryland with his sister Mary Ann, and brother-in-law Tom, during his retirement and spent time as a proud Store Greeter in the local Walmart. His Southern smile and Texas twang would make anyone in his presence feel wonderful.

Sammie is preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur Kistler and Dollie May Williams Kistler and his siblings Art (Sonny) Kistler Jr., Marian Thomas, and Mary Ann Holste.

Sammie is survived by his siblings Florence Jordan of Fort Worth, TX, Jimmy Kistler of Abilene, TX, and Wilma Boyd of Houston, TX.

Memorials may be made to the Newport Cemetery Association. Donations in Sammie’s name can be made to the MCCC Christ Can Food Bank or the Bowie Mission.
