Mr. Talmadge Killens

Mr. Talmadge Killens 70, of Fairmont, North Carolina passed away on Thursday December 3, 2020. He was the son of the late Thomas D. Killens Jr. and the late Dorothy Jean Hill Killens. He was a free spirit and a good person who would help someone out if there was a way that he could. Talmadge confessed Christ early in life and joined the First Baptist Church where his family attended under the pastorage of Dr. Joy Joseph Johnson. He graduated from Rosenwald High School and was a popular part of the Madison Street Crew. After high school he chose to further his education and ventured north to Cincinnati, Ohio where he began Funeral Service school. His first job was in High Point, North Carolina where he was employed with Hoovers Funeral Home. He also was employed with Cumby Funeral Home, and they stayed in touch. Upon returning home, after retirement Killens was a very valuable help with several of the funeral homes in Fairmont and Lumberton, namely McMillian Funeral Home and Community Funeral Home. Lately he served with the family business at Hills Funeral Home in Fairmont. He will certainly be missed. He reunited with First Baptist Church and attended faithfully. His voice could be heard as he made a joyful noise from the floor as he sang old hymns along with the choir.

Killens was a dedicated member of the Fairmont Rotary Club in Fairmont. He enjoyed the gatherings with the "fellows". He was also an active Mason and Shriner. Lately he was introduced to fine arts and culture at the Stage in Fairmont and grew to love it. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife. Left with loving memories are his siblings; Thomas Wendell Killens (Wanda) of Whiteville, NC, Alexander Killens of Raleigh, NC and Dale Rogers of Fairmont; one uncle, Richard Killens of Winston Salem, N C. Also he leaves many loving nieces and nephews, his classmates of the class of 69 and a host of other friends.

A graveside service will be Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Fairmont Cemetery, State Road Hwy 130- East, Fairmont, NC.
