Graveside service for Mrs. Doris J. Elston of Marietta, GA, 69, will be 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2020, at Oak Hill Cemetery iin Talladega. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2020, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Doris J. Swain Elston began her life on earth on July 15, 1951, to the parentage of Carson Cass and Dolly Mae Swain Ragland in Talladega, Alabama.
Mrs. Elston committed her life to Christ and made Belview Missionary Baptist Church her place of worship. Doris was educated in the Talladega City Schools. After graduating from Talladega High School, Doris completed a bachelor’s degree at Talladega College and a master’s degree at the University of Alabama Birmingham. She dedicated many years of service as a special education teacher with the Birmingham City Schools. Doris found love and in the early 70s she and Jimmy Elston united in holy matrimony. To this union two children were born, Sedrick and Chauncey. When Doris was not busy being a wife, mother and educator, she enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Mrs. Elston began her rest in eternity on the morning of Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at her residence. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Jimmy Elston; her parents, Carson Cass and Dolly Mae Ragland; a sister, Glenda Swain Scott; and four brothers, John Willie Cass, Manuel C. Cass, Fred Cass and Hilbert Cass.
Doris is survived by two sons, Sedrick (Carla) Elston of Montgomery, Alabama and Chauncey (Suzette) Elston of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren, Tyler Elston, Trace Elston and Tailyn Elston; one sister, Norma (Reverend Ronnie) Beavers of Anniston, Alabama; a brother, Patrick Cass of Talladega, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Praying for you all. Doris was a sweet and kind person, she touched the lives of many people. She always talked about her children and grandchildren with love. May God continue to Bless and be with you all. Veronica Tuck
