Obituary For Florence Louise Butts

Florence Louise Butts was a long time resident of Quitman Georgia. She departed this life November 27, 2020. Born in Wilcox County Georgia, she was the eldest of five children from the union between the late Jim Butts Jr. and Leila Lingo-Butts also of Georgia. She was predeceased by brothers Russell, Jimmie Lee, Thomas, , and Donald Butts.

All throughout her life she was passionate about education and attained many outstanding honors, awards, certifications, and certificates for her phenomenal contributions and expertise of the profession as well as various organizations throughout her lifetime and career.

She was a school teacher for many years and retired as Curriculum Director Of Brooks County School System. Such acknowledgments include the following: International Study and teaching abroad, graduation from Hudson High School in Macon, Georgia, Holsey Institute Cordele, Georgia, BSE from Albany State in Albany, Georgia, Master of Science in Education Administration from University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Instructional Supervision at New York University and a plethora of other awards and achievements in education and civic organizations. She was very instrumental along with five of her cousins in creating the butts annual reunion of which she was appointed the first secretary.

Her number one focus was to relay informative information to the Butts family and the importance of education young and old. In the late 90s the Butts Family Reunion instituted a educational scholarship to enhance growth, development, and education, which was named The Florence Louise Butts Academic Scholarship. This program fund continues to award numerous family recipients to help further there education.

She served on the finance committee, outreach committee and Trustee board at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church. She was a generous supporter to the needs of the church and family. She had a heart of gold. She was also an active member and President up until last year of the Jolly 12, a Social Club filled with educators from Quitman and Valdosta Georgia

She is survived by her uncle LC Butts (Esther/Chat) and long time friend both of Quitman , Sister-in-law Delores Louise Butts of Bridgeton, New Jersey and Sister-in-law Sandra Butts of Clayton, New Jersey. Special caregivers Mrs. Jeannie Little and Ms Willie Philips . She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. Lovely submitted the family.

A home going celebration of life will be Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 10AM at Beulah M.B. Church courtyard. Burial will follow in Griffin's Gift Baptist Church Cemetery in Dry Branch, GA. Visitation will be Wednesday at the Stevens-McGhee Chapel from 5PM-7PM. Visit this website on Thursday morning to see a livestream of the home going celebration. Ms. Butts was one of my junior high school teachers. She had a commanding presence. Ms Butts was an excellent teacher and a very caring person. She inspired all of her students to do their best. I will never forget her. Charlie W Wright
