Cora Brantley

Passed 12/23/2020

Early in the morning of December 23, Cora L. Brantley transitioned from this earthly home to her heavenly home.

Cora was born on September 10, 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA to Thomas and Era Wilson. Cora, at an early age, along with her brother Datch, came to live with her maternal grandparents, Vick and Mary Wilson in the Boiling Springs area. It was then that she attended and later joined Eskridge Grove Baptist Church.

While growing up in Boiling Springs, Cora met and married the love of her life, Clarence Brantley. They were married 69 years and to this union six children were born. Cora was the disciplinarian and reared her children in the church. She was a little woman in stature, but a force to be reckoned with when provoked.

A faithful and humble servant, Cora served as a Sunday School and BTU teacher; WMU President; a member of the Sanctuary Choir; the Nancy Barrow Missionary Circle and the Senior Ministry. She was also a member of the Adah Chapter No. 7 Order of Eastern Star in Kings Mountain, NC. Cora also attended the Life Enrichment Center and looked forward to going every day. She loved the pampering and kindness they showed her.

After retiring from Fiber Industries, Cora became the entrepreneur of “Cora’s Cakes and Pies.” It was at the Farmer’s Market thatshe met and formed lasting friendships with her patrons and fellow vendors.

After the passing of her husband, Cora retired from the cake business and enjoyed sitting on her porch enjoying conversing with her neighbors, Andrew Hopper and Linda Kimble, who kept watchful and vigilant eyes on her.

In her last days, Cora reflected on the good and long life she had been afforded and waited quietly, patiently and peacefully for the Lord to receive her unto Himself.

Cora was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; 1 daughter, Martha Carlton; her parents, Thomas and Era Wilson; 3 brothers, Charles, Richard and Woodrow (Datch) Wilson; 2 sisters, Eula Elliott and Gertrude Little.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jacqueline Barnes and Teressa Brantley; her sons, Hubert (Jenell) Brantley, Clarence (Sandy) Brantley, Jr. and Rev. Edward D. Brantley; grandchildren; Darrell Brantley, Wesley Barnes, Tifini (Thomas) Gordon, Audrey Brantley, Justin (Amber) Brantley, Thomas Brantley and Adam Brantley; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; special cousins, Beulah and Sammy Powell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

The funeral service for Ms. Brantley will be private. The service will be live-streamed on Facebook starting at 12:45 PM. She may be viewed at S. T. Enloe Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 2, 2021 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Cleveland Memorial Park.
