Tawanda Lavett Rose, known as “Wanda” was born on October 22, 1975 to Sharon Rose and Wallace Rose, Sr. in Quitman, Georgia.
Wanda was a member of the Shumate Street Church of Christ under the leadership of Brother Tony Herring, Sr. At Shumate, Wanda was instrumental in working with the children of all ages at the church.
Wanda attended the Brooks County School System where she was an extraordinary student. She excelled in academics and upon graduation from High School went to study at Valdosta State University (VSU). At VSU, Wanda received a bachelor's degree in Education that ultimately led to her career path. Later in her life, she went on to obtain her master’s degree in Arts and Education from the University of Phoenix. Also, while at VSU, she pledged to become a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
As a member of the Kappa Eta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Wanda served as the Chapter Assistant Secretary, Co-Chairman of the Building Your Economic Legacy Committee and Membership Handbook Co-Chairman. She was a part of the Technology Committee, Chapter Retreat Committee and Membership Committee. She loved History and submitted the History Submissions for the monthly Chapter Newsletter. Wanda devoted a great deal of her working life to her alma mater, as an employee within the Brooks County School System and the ECHOES 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC). While working for ECHOES, Wanda served thousands of students - fulfilling her self-proclaimed duty of ensuring quality education for marginalized students of all races, religions, creeds and financial backgrounds. At the time of her death, Wanda was the “Proud” Director of the entire ECHOES 21st CCLC program.
She was preceded in death by her paternal Grandparents, Mary and Robert Rose, Sr., maternal grandfather, Douglas Lambert and stepfather, Ralph Golden, Sr. She leaves to mourn a dutiful son, Jordan Rose and a devoted friend, Charles Kinsey both of Quitman, GA; mother, Sharon Golden, father, Wallace Rose, Sr. and two siblings, Portia Daniels and Wallace Rose, Jr. all of Quitman, GA; Stepbrothers and Stepsisters: Janice Staten, Roderick Golden, and Jerris Golden all of Quitman, GA, Jeffrey Golden (Thomasville, GA), Ralph Golden, Jr. (Louisville, KY); Grandmother, Ruth Lambert (Quitman, GA); Maternal aunts and uncles: Frances Lambert (Stone Mountain, GA), Charlotte Alexander and Adrian Lambert, both of Quitman, GA, Donnell Lambert (Valdosta, GA) and Timothy Lambert (Quitman, GA); Paternal aunts and uncles: Robert James Rose and Marie Rose (Quitman, GA), Ocie Allen (Haywood), Charlie Rose, Emma Jean Baker (Herman) all of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sorority sisters and many friends and co-workers.
A celebration of life will be Sunday, December 27, 2020 at 1PM at the Shumate Church of Christ Lawn. Visitation will be Saturday, at the Stevens-McGhee Chapel from 3PM-7PM.
