Obituary For Zemary Grant McGowan

On December 24, 2020, Zemary Grant McGowan was called home by our Lord and Savior.

Zemary was born to the late Henry and Flora Grant of Cross Hill, South Carolina. She joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Cross Hill, SC at an early age. She graduated from Bell Street High School in 1956, and subsequently earned a degree in Human Services from Piedmont Technical College. During her very lengthy career, Zemary served in several positions for S.C. State Government and both school districts within Laurens County.

In addition to her loving husband of 64 years, Eugene McGowan Sr., she is survived by four children: their daughters Dorothy Jean Owens (Late Lonnie Owens Jr.) and Melody Ann McGowan of Clinton, SC, and two sons Anthony McGowan of Clinton, SC. and Eugene Jr. (Stephanie) of Clinton, Maryland.

Zemary is also survived by three sisters: Bertha Hill, Ruth Fuller, and Maggie Philson of Cross Hill, S.C.: Five brothers: Alonzo, Ruben, and James Grant of Cross Hill, Henry Grant Jr. of Laurens S.C., and Dr. John H. Grant (Belinda) of Asheville, N.C. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, and leaves to cherish her dear 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren, a special niece Floree Williams, and a host of other family and friends.

Zemary enjoyed traveling, tending to her flowers, and cherished every moment with her family and friends. She lived a blessed and wonderful life!

The service was held Tuesday December 29,2020 at the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
