Although Mary never worked a traditional job, she was a homemaker. She also was the neighborhood babysitter and had a hand in raising many of the children that lived in the Lawndale area. She was a sitter for many years until “her girls” started school.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Wimbush Sr.; two sons, David Lee Wimbush Jr. and Roger Wimbush; three grandsons, Randy Wimbush, Reggie Wimbush, and Marlo Beam; a great grandson, Cornelius Clark; a great great granddaughter, Alaysha Cooper; and four brothers.
Left to cherish her memory are her children including two daughters,Verna Brown of the home and Helen Hush (Melvin) of Shelby; three sons, Thomas Wimbush (the late Carolyn) of Shelby, and Roy Wimbush and Bobby Wimbush of Lawndale; two brothers, Louis Kee (Loretta) of Kings Mountain and Harvey Kee (Joan) of Waco; four sisters, Rosie Nell Byrd of Lawndale, Carrie Davenport of Atlanta, GA, Dorothy Scott of Waco, and Carolyn Wilson (Jay) of Stanley; twentyfive grandchildren; fifty-one great grandchildren; twenty great great grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Jasmine Brown of the home; two special granddaughters, Courtney King of Kings Mountain and Lateisha Wimbush of Lawndale; two special great granddaughters, Haven and Zandraya “her girls” of Lawndale; a special brother in law, Calvin Davenport of Atlanta, GA; a special friend, Dorothy Elmore of Lawndale; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The funeral service for Mrs. Wimbush will be private. The service will be live-streamed on Facebook starting at 1:45 PM. She may be viewed at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at First Baptist Lawndale from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM. Burial will take place at Emmanuel Memorial AME Zion Church Cemetery.
