Obituary For James Hoey

Mr. James William Hoey, 87, of Shelby, NC passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at White Oak Manor in Shelby, NC. He was born on March 20, 1933 in Cleveland County, NC to the late John Hoey and the late Amanda Posey Hoey.

After graduating from high school, James completed brick mason school. Thereafter, he was drafted into the Army serving the United States in the Korean War. Shortly before entering the service, he married his beloved wife, the former Margaret Spikes and remained married to her for 69 years.

James was employed in the home construction industry and laid bricks for many new houses in the Shelby area. He joined Eskridge Grove Baptist Church at an early age and had rededicated his life to Christ later in life. James enjoyed cooking among other things and was an excellent cook going back to his days in the service in which that was one of his duties.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, C.J. Hoey, J.B. Hoey, Arthur Hoey, Anthony Hoey, Clyde Hoey, and Earl Hoey.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 69 years, Margaret Spikes Hoey; one brother, Emmett Hoey; three sisters, Selma Hoey (Gilbert Hunt), Ethel Hoey Dawkins (Ben) and Marnita Hoey; a sister-in-law, Christine Hoey; a special niece, Erin Tate and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Hoey will be private. He may be viewed on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. Burial will take place at Eskridge Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
