Harold was known as 'Bigon' at his birthplace Spartanburg, SC and the home of his heart, New York.
He was the second son born (11/9/1929) to Shafter Cornelius and Ethel Queenie (Porter) Mills in Spartanburg, SC.
Bigon graduated from Carver High School and accepted a football scholarship to Benedict College in Columbia, SC.
He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. After coming home from the war, he was offered the opportunity to go to New York with his first cousins, Arthur & Red Prysock [Musicians]. That travel to New York kept him there for 60 years. He met his wife, Christine and started a family.
Bigon became Arthur's Road Manager for 20 years and traveled extensively throughout the United States. During that period, Bigon was able to cut a record called "Teenage Rock" written by his wife, Christine. In addition, Bigon was a Taxi Driver/Manager for Quik Cab Services in Brooklyn, New York for several years and a Security Guard for Watchdog Security until he retired in 1999.
In retirement, he spent more time with his children and grandchildren. We will remember and miss most about him is his pleasant demeanor, his love of a good meal, the fun we all had together during family social occasions, love of travel (especially riding AMTRAK), and love of football and 'sofa' coaching of the teams that did not play the "full 90 minutes". We were so fortunate to have had Dad with us.
Bigon was called Brother Mills in his local congregation. He loved being on time for the meetings and singing Kingdom songs. He also loved seeing everyone on "zoom". It was his belief and conviction to be part of the 'new earth' (Isaiah 65:17). He mentioned on many Sundays after the meeting: "Now, I have worshiped and I am going to get something good to eat and watch some football''. We look forward to future times together, with Dad, in Jehovah's 'new earth, where no sickness (Isaiah 33:24) or death will be (Revelation 21:3,4), only perfect health!
Bigon is survived by his siblings: Stanley Mills [brother] and Barbara Mills [sister] Daughters: Harriet Mills of the home, Crystal [Larry] Belle of Snellville, GA. Grandchildren: Elesha [Roosevelt] Evans of Harrisburg, PA & Lara [Chavis] Adams of Mableton, GA. Great Grandchildren: MiKayla & Joshua Evans.
