Obituary For Ricky Jones

Ricky Joe Jones, 64, departed this life to claim his heavenly rest and reward on January 2, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. He was born on April 11, 1956 in Cleveland County, NC to Mae Francis Harper and the late Buddy Joe Jones.

Rick was known by all as a devoted family man. He demonstrated his deep commitment to his family in everything he did. He and Beverly Bebee Jones married on December 15, 1979 and raised two daughters, Karonda Carty and Kazi Jones and one son, Spencer Jones, J.D. In March 2004, he welcomed and embraced his son-in-law, Dexter Carty, as an integral part of the family unit. Soon after, he assumed the role in which he was most proud, “PawPaw”. He could never speak enough about his love and pride for his granddaughter Melodi Carty, and grandsons A.J. Carty, Jaiden Carty, and Daxton Carty.Through his steady and abiding love, guidance, and prayer, he built a strong and loving family that will continue his legacy.

As the oldest of his siblings, he was a constant loving and guiding presence in the lives of his brothers: Michael Philip Jones (Patsy Kay), Dr. John Douglas Jones (Beverly Ann), Buddy Joe Jones Jr. (Angela), Donald Jay Jones (Maryvell), Anthony McCluney (Kimberly) and his sister Je’Myrah McCluney (Whitley).

Anyone who spent any amount of time with Rick knows about his effortless sense of humor. He was always there with a witty joke, a sly look, or a well-timed comment. Even as we mourn his absence, we feel his presence with every funny story retold, picture shared and memory recounted.

All the qualities, characteristics and values that made Rick a phenomenal man was above all rooted in his faith. His unquestioning faith in God and his unwavering commitment to being a living example of God’s love in this world showed up in all his doings. He ministered to people in whatever way God led him to and his ability to meet people where they were and share his own testimony in a real way touched more lives than any of us will ever know. In this way, his life is indeed eternal. Rick is preceded in his transition by his father, Buddy Joe Jones Sr., and his infant granddaughter Zya Daisy-Ann Carty. His memory is also cherished by aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless other friends and family.

There will be walk through viewing held at Enloe Mortuary (231 N Lafayette St. Shelby, NC 28150) on Thursday, January 14th from 4pm – 7pm. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. Details will be forthcoming. Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloemortuary.com. Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going. John 14:1-4 My thoughts and prayers are with you!! Julius Guest

Ricky Jones was known as "Papa" to me. The time that I spent with him and Nana was through the association of his daughter Karonda Carty, who is married to my uncle, Dexter Carty. I will always remember him for his love of enjoying coffee in the morning while eating banana nut or blueberry muffins. This was something that both him and nana enjoyed together. Something I always admired as simple as it was. He enjoyed watching old movies with his grandchildren while sitting in his lazy boy chair with his electric blanket. Im sure most of us knew that the cold and him weren't friends. A little laugh (LOL). I'm not the best with words, so I will just like to end by saying that I always felt a warm embrace in both him and Nana's presence. He will be truly missed and loved for the rest of all our lives. To My Dearest Nana: I extend all my love to you and pray for God's continuous strength and comfort at this time. As well as Auntie K, Uncle Dex, Kazi, Spence and my cousins also the rest of the entire family. "Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation." With love from LaLa.

When I met Mr. Jones he greeted people with his eyes, a nod, then smile. When he was with his family he led with a smile, always. He taught me a lot about by just walking in a room.
