He grew up in Paris, Texas during the Great Depression and graduated from Paris High School in 1949 at the age of 16. Paul was the youngest of three children, excelled at academics, worked hard to help his family any way he could and was proud to have played high school football with NFL great Raymond Berry. After high school, Paul attended Paris Junior College and soon thereafter began his lifelong career as a car dealer. He owned several successful dealerships in Fort Worth and Bowie and retired in 1994 to work on his farm outside of Bowie. Paul met his wife of 56 years, Donna Sue Hancock, at the Shriner’s Circus in Fort Worth. Shortly after they were married on July 11, 1964 and have been by each other’s side ever since. Together they moved to Bowie in 1967, where they raised their four children and served as pillars of the community. Paul was an avid sports enthusiast whose greatest joy was cheering on his loved ones as they played sports from little league to college. Over the years, he and Sue traveled countless miles across Texas to attend games and boasted a near perfect attendance in each football, basketball, and baseball season. Paul was also very active in the community, devoting time to the Bowie Baseball Association where he helped build the baseball complex. He also entertained the residents of Bowie for many years with his performance in the Bowie Band Show as well as his humorous newspaper ads he ran for his dealership. He loved working on the farm and checking cows, something he continued daily until just a few months ago. He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his daughter, Paula Jeanette Swint, his son, Stephen Matthew Swint, his brother, John Eugene Swint and his sister, Fannie Fay Shifflett.
