Obituary For Lonnie Corry

Lonnie D. Corry lovingly known as LD by most passed on January 3, 2021 at the age 98. LD was born in Shelby, North Carolina to Lonnie C and Eliza Ann Corry. He grew up in Cleveland County and graduated from Camp High School. LD Corry enlisted in the US Army in 1943 where he served 3 years in World War II. During his time in the Army he earned a World War 2 Victory Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. After his honorable discharge LD returned home to civilian life as a farmer and truck driver. He retired from Fiber Industries. LD was an active member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church where he served as trustee and a member of the choir and usher board. LD was passionate about family, farming, and gardening.

He is preceded in death by his wife Easter G. Corry, two children Rita C. Hoey and Gregory C. Corry, siblings Nellie H. Booker, Ruby C. Townsend, Molean C. Morrow, Charlie N. Manning, and Mary M. Hosch. He is survived by his children, Larry D. Corry (Arretta) and Deborah A. Corry both of Shelby NC; grandchildren, Jacqua Corry, Russell Corry (Miranda), Amber Hoey, and Myla Hoey all of Shelby, NC; great grandchildren Rachel Corry and Olivia Corry of Shelby NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be private for immediate family members on January 11, 2021 at 2 pm at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. The service will be live streamed starting at 1:45 PM on Monday, January 11, 2021. Public viewing of the body will be held at Shoal Creek Baptist Church on January 11, 2021 from 10am to 12 pm. A memorial service will be planned later as COVID restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers please consider making contributions to the Shoal Creek Baptist Church Food Pantry, Cleveland County Math Academy or North Carolina Troopers Association.

So sorry to hear about my spiritual Brother L.D. Corry. I was privileged to serve as his pastor for nine years during which time he and his family became, and remain to this day, genuine friends.
