Cecelia Jones

Mrs. Cecelia Donnell Jones departed this life on January 2, 2021. She was the eldest daughter to the late Mr. W.C. Donnell and the late Mrs. Lillian Donnell Kelly. She was born on March 18, 1939 in Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband Crawford James Jones. Upon her father’s death in 1947, she, her mother, and her sister returned to her mother’s home, in Fayetteville, NC, where she graduated from EE Smith Senior High School. She matriculated to J. C. Smith University, Charlotte NC, where she met and married her late husband, Crawford James Jones. After their marriage, she and her husband moved to Greensboro, NC, and resided there for sixty-two years.

Cecelia was an employee of the Greensboro/Guilford County Schools, she worked there for thirty-two years. She was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon, and was a member of the Estelle Eaton Circle. She was a member of ETTA PHI BETA SORORITY, being one of the Charter Members of the organization. She also was a member of SEANC STATE ORGANIZATION, and NCAEOP (North Carolina Association of Office Personnel). Cecelia loved people and never met a stranger, she could hold a conversation with anyone. She loved to read and loved her family. Prior to her retirement she and her late husband moved to Pleasant Garden, NC, and she retired from the Greensboro/Guilford County School System in 1995.

Cecelia is survived by her two sons: Crawford David Jones of Greensboro, NC, and Carlton Steven Jones (Rogerline) of Raleigh, NC; three granddaughters: Christina Quick (Dontrail) of California, MD; Chelsea Jones of Greensboro, NC, and Ciara Jones of Raleigh, NC; one great- granddaughter; Caitlin Kerr of California, MD; two great-grandsons: Landon and Aiden Quick of California, MD; one sister Brenda Salley of Greensboro, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be missed dearly by her church, family, friends, and neighbors.

A public viewing will be held Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 12 pm-2 pm in the Cassie Coote-Brown Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery.
