Gladys Scales Herbin, born in Madison, NC on May 7, 1944 to the late Nellie Scales and Dennis Scales. She departed this life at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2021. At an early age, Gladys was destined for greatness in high school, she was a member of the Majorettes. She was a graduate of Charles Drew High School, Madison, NC and completed CAN Certification from Rockingham Community College in Employment. Gladys was a provider for her family, working for the Council of Aging of Rockingham County, where she would go on to take care of her Mother, the late Nellie Scales. Gladys’ pride and joy was her family, she would always speak highly of everyone. CNA, Gladys was a people person and really like to help others in need. The love of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they were her heart. Gladys loved to make you laugh and she loved to cook for her family and friends. We can hear her now saying “Ya’ll coming over to eat?” Or she would say “where we going to eat”. Gladys favorite quote was “A Family that Prays together stays together”. She was a member of True Light Deliverance Church of Stoneville, NC under Pastor Roy Hall. Her dedication in giving back was always spending the holiday season ringing the bell for Christmas with the Salvation Army. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Peggy Brim, Maydell Oliver and Marie S. Webster, brothers, Junior Scales, Leroy Scales and Walter Oliver.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her children; Malinda Mae Hughes (Edmond) and Harvey (Ricky) Herbin (Danita), grandchildren; Nikki Herbin, Greensboro, NC Winston Salem, NC, Yolanda Galloway, Odenton, MD, Latoya Herbin, Reidsville, NC, Ryan Herbin, Charlotte, NC, 11 great-grandchildren, eight sisters; Mildred Brown, Robin Hatcher both of Madison, NC, Nellie Herbin (Mainen), Reidsville, NC, Dorothy Wilson (Mike), Greensboro, NC, Pinky Lanthrop (Sweetie, Stoneville, NC, Any Young, Atlanta, GA, Sharon Oliver, Columbus, OH, Linda Oliver-Walden, High Point, NC, eight brothers; James Scales, William Scales, Dennis Martin, Billy Oliver, John Malloy all of Madison, NC, George Thomas (Ollie), Siler City, NC, David Oliver (Debbie), NY, Ray Oliver, Martinsville, VA and a host of relatives and friends.
