Obituary For Brother Johnnie Reese

A Homegoing Celebration for Brother Johnnie L. Reese, who passed away on December 29, 2020 will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021, Peace Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 2607 East 24th Avenue, Tampa, Bishop Sylvester Robinson, Senior Pastor, Officiating Eulogist. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Brother Johnnie Lee Reese was born November 23, 1943 in Tampa, Florida to the late Mary Magdalene-Reese and late James Thomas, Sr. He was a graduate of Middleton High School class of 1962. He was employed at Florida Steel Tampa for 29 years from which he retired in 2005. During his years of retirement, he worked at Walmart as a Supervisor. He was married to his wife Essie Reese, for 41 years.

He began his Christian journey at an early age and joined Peace Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend J.C. Goins. He was a devoted and faithful member of Peace Progressive for over 40 years. He also gave his tithe to the Lord, even when he could not bring it himself. He served on Culinary Ministry and was an avid member of the Men’s Sunday School class. He often mentioned how he missed attending his Sunday School class.

He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather. He was a quiet, humble, loving, and caring person. One of the joys of his life was fishing with his brothers. He was a true hometown fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was a hardworking man.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Magdalene-Reese and James Thomas, Sr.; Mother Ana Reese and Father John B. Reese; brothers and sisters, Joseph Reese, Phyllis Rose Jones, Major Reese, James T. Reese, Jr, Mertis Wedlow and blended daughter Elizabeth Roberts;

He leaves to cherish loving memories with: his loving wife, Essie Reese; children, Sharon, Sylvia, Fredrick Reese; blended children, Ameenah, Ira, Bennie, Willie, Essie, Antonio; 43 grandchildren, 90 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren; special blended grandchildren, Meocean, Johneather, Helmer, Desmond, Faith, Elijah, Honey; 3 brothers, George (Ann) Reese, Willie (Barbara) Reese, Bernard (Johnnie) Reese; 3 sisters, Brenda Reese-Brown, Andrea Reese, Cynthia (John) McDonald; a host of nieces and nephews and extended family; special friends, Freddie McNair, Dea. Rick Kendrick, Esau.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 6-8 p.m. at Integrity Funeral Services, 3822 E. 7th Avenue, Tampa. Family and Friends are asked to assemble at 10:30 a.m. at the Church.

In compliance for the safety of the public, facial mask required and temperature monitoring will be taken upon entrance for both services.
