Obituary For James Byrd Jr.

A resident of Jacksonville, Florida passed away December 31, 2020. He was a member of Mother Midway AME Church, Rev. Louis C. Kirkland, Pastor. Survivors include: son, Jason Byrd, Sr (Jacqueline); daughters, Janita Byrd and Jerrica Hall; grandchildren, Jason Byrd, Jr, Jalyn Byrd, Terry Hall and Teriana Hall; godchildren, Marty Geiger and Jallona Brady-Dennis; other relatives and many friends. Private Funeral ceremony will be held January 11th. Committal service is open to the public at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, January 11, 2021 at 1:30pm. Masks is required and social distancing will be enforced.

My sincere condolences to the James Byrd, Jr. family. Byrd and Vivian were my friends, my family for over sixty years. They were my son Derek's godparents. In fact, they claimed all four of my now adult children as their godchildren. We loved them dearly. I talked with Byrd a few days before his birthday, on his birthday, and a few days before his death. We loved Byrd and Vivian dearly. They're now together forever.
