Larry Waterman

Larry Joe Waterman was born January 17, 1955, in Hemingway, South Carolina to the late James L. Waterman, Sr. and the late Mattie Thompson Waterman. He departed this life on Sunday, January 3, 2021.

The family relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina when he was a young child. He attended J. C. Price Junior High School where he excelled in academics and football. Larry, along with all of his brothers – “The Waterman Boys”– was an integral part of the landscaping services that they rendered under the direction, tutelage, and the watchful eye of their father, the late James Waterman, Sr. He attended Ben L. Smith Senior High School where he met the love of his life, Janice “Red” Worthey. They later wed and from their union, two children were born, Carl Eugene and Travis Kinté. Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Core and served honorably from September 1972 to January 1975, followed by three years of Marine Reserves Services, ending in March of 1978. He attended and received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Rutledge College. Larry worked as a manager at Chemical Chair House for many years.

Larry enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. The joy of his later years was his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Waterman, and brother, John Waterman (Brenda).

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Carl E. Waterman, Sr. (Jenora) and Travis K. Waterman (Nikki) with former wife, Janice Worthey; Seven grandchildren: Tatyana Waterman, Ashleigh Waterman, Niriah Mills, Carl Waterman, Jr., Tyrin Mills, Miyah Mills, and Desire Mills; Siblings: James Waterman, Jr. (Elva), Frazier Waterman, Jerome Waterman, Mae Waterman Jones, David Waterman and Dwight Foust (God-brother); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

A public viewing will be held Thursday, January 14th, 2021 from 1 PM-3 PM in the Cassie Coote-Brown Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held Friday, January 15th, 2021 at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury NC.
