Obituary For Mr. Carlton Sherman, Sr.

Mr. Carlton Eurville Sherman, Jr. was born October 10, 1937 in Tampa, Florida to Carlton E. Sherman, Sr. and Effie Sherman. On January 6, 2021, God called him out of this earthly home to be with him in paradise for eternity.

Carlton, who was affectionately known as Jr., attended Hillborough School System in Tampa, Florida and he faithfully worshipped every Sunday at St. Paul’s AME Church in Tampa, Florida. After relocating to Jersey City, New Jersey he attended Public School No. 22 and worshipped at Metropolitan AME Church in Jersey City, New Jersey. He worked at Cohen Express Corporation in Secaucus, New Jersey for over 40 years. After retiring, he worked with Watson Funeral Home in Jersey City, New Jersey. He moved to Dillon, South Carolina in 2007, where he worked faithfully at Bartell Funeral Home, LLC until his death.

He was known as a no-nonsense man that meant what he said and said what he meant. He was not a man of many words, but showed his compassion with his gestures of love. If he promised you something, you could depend on him to do it. He enjoyed partying and traveling and if he heard of family or friends passing away, he would pack up his bags and make it to their funeral regardless of how far he had to travel. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and those who worked with him.

Carlton was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton E., Sr. and Effie Sherman; one son, Carlton Sherman, III; one daughter, Rhonda Sherman; two sisters: Evelyn King and Gloria Davenport and one brother, Kenneth Sherman; one sister-in-law, Jacqueline Sherman and one brother-in-law, Frank Presswood.

Carlton leaves to cherish fond memories: his companion of over 45 years and loving wife, Julia “Doris” Buie Sherman; three beloved daughters: Sandra (Omego) Stuckey of Rembert, SC; Earline Sherman of Jersey City, New Jersey and Pamela (Larry) Ross of Jersey City, New Jersey; two beloved sons: Kevin (Barbara) Sherman of Arlington, Texas and William (Linda) Shaw of Jersey City, New Jersey; two step-children that he loved dearly, Vanessa (K.C.) Harley of Forest Park, Georgia and John Buie of Hoboken, New Jersey; a “grandson” that he raised as his own, Tyquan Buie; twenty-eight grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren; a sister: Elouise Presswood of Scotch Plain, New Jersey; a brother, Robert Sherman of New Jersey; a very special friend for many years, Del Hemingway and a special friend that he met after moving to South Carolina, William H. Carmichael and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and the Bartell Funeral Staff.
