Obituary For Ms. Dora Gipson

Dora T. Gipson, 93, departed this earthly life into eternal reward on January 11, 2021 after an unexpected and swift decline in her health. She was born in Marlboro County, SC on September 18, 1927 to the late Silas Conwell and Mary Lee Tapp. She was the elder of the two children born to this union. She was also preceded in death by her dear sister, Mattie Legrand; her son, Edmond Evans, Jr.; her daughter, Carolyn Thompson; granddaughter, Debbie Lena Burroughs.

Dora lived a full life devoted to God, her family, her church and her community. She was a domestic homemaker and caregiver who dedicated her time to aiding the development and well-being of others. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, and organizing. An impeccable home was of the utmost importance. One of Dora’s absolute favorite pastimes was spending the day in the kitchen preparing hot, delicious and delightful meals for her beloved family; it was her love language.

Dora raised seven children in the community of Richmond County, NC: Carolyn Thompson, Edmond Evans Jr, Doris Fisher, Althea Robinson, Wilbert Gibson Jr, Robin Wallace and Tonya Gipson. She loved her children and found great joy sharing just how proud she was of each of them.

After moving her family to High Point, Dora became a faithful committed member and prayer warrior of Calvary Baptist Church. There she established a firm foundation and was steadfast in her faith. Until her health declined, she was actively involved in the Usher Board; the Blue-Ribbon Missionary Circle, Daughters of Dorcas; and the Gospel Choir. Dora was also one of the Mothers of the Church.

Left to cherish many fond and joyous memories are her dedicated children, Doris (Claude) Fisher of High Point, NC; Wilbert (Sharon) Gibson Jr. of Brooklyn, NY; Althea Robinson of High Point, NC; Robin (Russell) Wallace of Trinity, NC and Tonya Gipson (Mike) of High Point, NC; one son-in-love, Melvin Thompson; one loving god-daughter, Kathryn Short of Rockingham, NC; her beloved grandchildren, Jeff (Doris) Thompson of Huntersville, NC; Tamika (CSM) Kenyatta) Gaskins of White Plains, MD; Jasu (Kyle) Robinson-Okai of Brooklyn, NY; Reverend Dr. Jason Thompson of Kansas City, MO; Candice (William) James of Browns Summit, NC; Taj Gibson of New York, NY; Taquita (Tim) Wallace-Chan of High Point, NC; Ajaie Gibson of Brooklyn, NY; Tempestt Wallace of Jackson, Tennessee; and Dante Wallace of Trinity, NC; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Rosa Boyer and Mary Frances Walker of Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends. Near and dear to her heart: Lisa Campbell of Lexington, NC; Mollestine and Alicia Caldwell of High Point, NC.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p. m. Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Guilford Memorial Park. Ms. Gipson may be viewed on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Family. My time in Ms Dora's presence was minimal. I've been aware of her existence as well as experienced her teachings since childhood. Her Son was my friend as a child and still is today. Yes I felt her presence indirectly. The Family will be lifted in prayer. I will leave with you all as I stated stated to my friend Wilbert Gibson Jr. "You have to learn to live with your loss, because you will never get over it" The Huggins Family!
