Obituary For John "Jay Tee" Thomas

On Sunday morning on the 2nd day of June in 1963, a baby boy was born to Jeremiah and Katherine Thomas. They named him John Lester. John was born and raised in the small town of Gifford, FL. John spent his formative years in the Indian River County School District and graduated with the class of 1981. John was a social butterfly and enjoyed participating in track & field. He excelled in the 100 yard dash, 220, and 440 relays.

After high school, John entered the work field and became an auto detailer at Ken Puttick Cadillac. He also held a manager’s position at Mr. Miller’s Lounge(The Tree). Over the years he also held part time jobs at the neighborhood corner stores (Smith’s Grocery, The Cold Spot, and This ‘N’ That). Due to his health, John had to cease working. In his free time, John enjoyed playing dominoes, being active on social media, and spending time with friends and family. Most of all, he enjoyed loving on his grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papa.”

John was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

On Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 6:47am, God called John home to eternal rest. John was preceded in death by his mother Katherine Thomas; his maternal grandparents, Mark and Corine Drisdom; paternal grandparents, Clayton and Selfie Lee Thomas.

He leaves to cherish his memories his daughters, Jomeka L. Thomas of Vero Beach, FL, Semilka Warner of Georgia, Tekiva Jones of Melbourne, FL; special daughter, Amberia McNeal of Vero Beach, FL; father, Jeremiah Thomas Sr. of Vero Beach, FL; sisters, Gloria Thomas, Kathryn Annette(Elliot Sr.)Johnson and Bridgette Thomas all of Vero Beach, FL; brothers, Jeremiah(Sharon)Thomas, Jr., Jimmy(Sheila)Thomas, Sr., and Willis Thomas all of Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren, Alenia Lester, Ja’Kari Toomlin, Jah’Daysha, Jah’Ri, Ja’Kasha, and Mal’akhi Warner; godsister, Cathy Holloway; godson, Martrez Barnes; a host of six aunts and four uncles; nieces, Latoryia “Kabookie” Barr, Sharonda Johnson, Shanita Thomas, Tameka Thomas, Brianna “My” Smith, and Jordan Thomas; nephews, Toranto Thomas, Elliot Johnson, Jr., Willie Thomas, Jimmy Thomas, Jr., Jerome Thomas, and Willis Thomas, Jr.; and a host of other family members and sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly. A special thank you to Elliot Johnson(Tap) for all you did for John in his time of need.

Public viewing for John Thomas will take place on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Vero Beach, FL between the hours of 5:00pm and 7:00pm. Funeral services will convene on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 11:00am also at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Vero Beach, FL.

Although many venues have opened and the restrictions of COVID 19 have been relaxed, we here at Stone Brothers Funeral Homes are still enforcing the guidelines set forth by the CDC and FDOH to protect our families and our staff.
