Obituary For Mark Wesley Dixon, Sr.

Fort Pierce resident Mark Wesley Dixon, Sr., known affectionately as “Wes” to all his family and friends, died Friday, January 8, 2021. Wes was born on August 25, 1929 in Tifton, Georgia to the late John and Gertrude Dixon. His father served our country in the military and his mother worked as a laborer while raising her family of eight children. When Wes was a young child, the family moved to Stuart, FL in the early 1940s. There he later met and married his beloved wife of 65 years, Edell Lewis, and moved to Fort Pierce, FL.

From an early age and throughout his adulthood, Wes was passionate about fishing and hunting. Often times, he spent numerous hours enjoying the thrill of the hunt. One this is for sure, Wes never returned home empty handed. The memories of our family gathering to enjoy the fruits of his labor have left a legacy for generations of the importance of staying connected to your loved ones. When he was not working, fishing, or hunting, Wes was an avid fan of baseball. His deep admiration for the game fueled his drive to help establish the Northside Bat & Ball Club in the early 1960s. Still in existence today, Northside has impacted the lives of thousands amateur athletes and paved the way for the way for some to pursue careers in America’s favorite past time. As the owner of Dixon and Sons Masonry, he was known for his fair prices and quality work. He was noted for his charitable work involving church construction throughout Florida and Haiti.

Wes received Christ at an early age and attended churches in the Fort Pierce and Stuart areas.

During his lifetime, Wes had a way of interacting with people which allowed him the opportunity to mentor countless individuals. Through his love of outdoor sports, he was able to relate to our youth and some adults in a way others could not. After retiring, Wes spent his time enjoying the sports he loved and the family he treasured.

Marked by devotion, generosity, and strength, his presence has left an inedible mark in our hearts and is the reason why we celebrate him and his life.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Edell Dixon; daughter, Debora McCutchen; granddaughters, Tikesha English and Pamela Dampier; his parents and siblings. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family.

When our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and devoted friend Wesley Dixon went home to live with Jesus for eternity, he left behind to cherish his memory his sons, Mark W.(Mary)Dixon, Jr., Calvin(Jewel)Dixon both of Fort Pierce, FL, Marvin(Anna)Plummer of Okeechobee, FL; daughters, Diana Josue of Fort Pierce, FL, Adell Dixon of West Melbourne, FL, Terry Dixon of Fort Pierce, FL, Marilyn J. Jackson of Fort Pierce, FL, Minnie T. Finxley of Youngstown, OH, and Rhonda James of Okeechobee, FL; brother-in-law, Rev. Luther D.(Ethel)Walton of Bridgeport, CT and sister-in-law, Willie Mae Maize of Stuart, FL; and a host of nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.

Graveside funeral services for Mark Dixon, Sr. will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2020 at 9:45am at HIllcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce, FL.

Although many venues have opened and the restrictions of COVID 19 have been relaxed, we here at Stone Brothers Funeral Homes are still enforcing the guidelines set forth by the CDC and FDOH to protect our families and our staff.
