Mildred Gardin Diew

03/18/1927 - 01/17/2021

On late Sunday evening, January 17, 2021, Mildred Inell Gardin (Seigle) Diew, 93, of Somersby Circle, Gastonia, North Carolina transitioned from this earthly home to her Heavenly Home while a patient at Caromont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia, North Carolina. She was the third child and daughter in a total of ten children of Hiram Luther Gardin and Beatrice Merrintha Duff Gardin. Mildred lived her entire loving the Lord as her Personal Savior and as a born-again Christian under the godly help of her parents and family. She would always say, “God Has been good to me.”

Mildred attended and graduated from the Gaston County School System. During her early years she became a self-taught accomplished seamstress for her family, others and self and an avid Crossword puzzle. She was trained to become the first Dietitian Manager for Hoffman Road Elementary School Cafeteria where she served for many years. Later, she moved into the manufacturing field as an assembly line operator at Homelite, Inc. of Gastonia, North Carolina until her retirement. Her senior years moved her into designing and making jewelry, playing her piano, singing Gospel, visiting the nursing homes and Crosswords/Seek and Find puzzling.

Mildred first marriage was to the late Samuel “Sam” Seigle (nickname, June) during her young adult life and later became a young widow. From their union she bore five children (Mary, Helen, Samuel Eugene, Daisy Merrintha, Deborah Delores and Joray Seigle) which propelled her to become a devoted wife, homemaker and mother. As a young widow, she was pursued by our step-father, Howard Walter Diew and after a time of courtship, they married and shared 40+ years together until his death.

Church has always been an important part of her life. In early years she was a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church, later she moved her membership to Friendship Baptist Church (Friendship Christian Church) and served in the missionary and choir/hymn choir. Her final church home became God’s Way Ministry Non-Denominational Church as the oldest member and “Mother of the Church (Mother Diew)”.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel “Sam” Seigle; Sons, Samuel Eugene Seigle and Joray Seigle; her second husband, Howard Walter Diew; Sisters, Martha Lucille Gardin Watkins, Margaret Ruth Gardin Burris and Anna May Gardin Minter; Brother, James Robert Gardin (J.R.).
