Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., St. Luther M.B. Church, 1040 Banks Street, Jackson, MS 39203 with burial in Autumn Woods Cemetery, 4000 W. Northside Drive, Jackson, MS 39209.

Mother Dorothy Jean Sharkey born December 9, 1942, to Mattie Henry, and was loved and raised by Susie McDaniel, better known as “Big Mama.” Dorothy was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. She was a product of Jackson Public Schools. She worked to help others throughout her life from the private sector, nursing homes, hospitals and even the daycares. She was an active member of St. Luther M.B. Church where she served on the Mother Board, the Pastor’s Aide and the Greeters Ministry. She loved her pastor, Emeritus Pastor Charles E. Polk Sr. and Pastor Charles E. Polk, Jr. She was a faithful member of St. Luther until her health failed. Both of her mothers, Mattie Henry and Susie McDaniel preceded her in death. In addition, were her brother, Ricky Bennet, sister, Juanita Cooper and her twin daughter, Jenella Stewart-Hicks. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Lonnie Sharkey; sister-in-law, Mildred Steel; brother-in-law, Larry Sharkey; special sister-in-law, Ms. Willie B. Allen; three daughters: Valerie D. Seals, Gail (Willie) Smoot, and Wynella Stewart; three sons: Henry D. Jefferson, twins Lonnie and Ronnie Jefferson. Her grandchildren who loved her dearly and will forever hold her dear to their hearts, Zondra (Tyrone) Wade, Avas Jefferson, Karmen (Patrick) Miley, Tausha Seals, Portia Green, Henry Jefferson, Jr., Andrew Green, April Fitzpatrick, twins Rontoria and Ronnie Jefferson, Jr., Jenerio Hicks, and Lashayla Sanders. She also has a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren whom she loved and enjoyed. Last but certainly not lease, she leaves to cherish her memories a special goddaughter, Mrs. Carolyn Miller, her best friend, Mrs. Loretta Kelly and a special friend, Mr. Augusta Jefferson. Mother Sharkey has gone to be with the Lord and her prayer was that her family continue to love and take care of each other no matter what comes their way. She always said if we remember the words of the 23rd Psalm and Proverbs 3:5-6 we would be alright. She may be gone physically but she is still here with us in spirit.
