Damon was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, where he was educated in the Buffalo public school system. He attended PS37 and graduated from Emerson High School.
For 24 years, Damon proudly served his country in the U. S. Army. In his tenure, he received numerous awards and courageously fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2005, Damon retired from military service. Afterwards, he continued his life of service as a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service in Houston, TX, where he was loved by his many patrons and recognized for promoting business.
Damon was preceded in death by two brothers, Darrell Butler and Christopher McDowell.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Shirley McDowell of the home; three sons, Damon McDowell, Jr. of Chicago, IL, Shemorron Turner of Katy, TX and Darren Turner of High Point, NC; three granddaughters, Deja Turner of Killeen, TX, Shamarria and D'Aundria Turner of High Point, NC; loving parents, Martha and Thomas Cunningham of Cheektowaga, NY; three sisters, Carol Rainey and Emily Jernison of Buffalo, NY and Janie Santiago of Cheektowaga, NY; two brothers, Miles McDowell of Buffalo, NY and Keith McDowell (Andrea) of Tampa, FL; a cherished mother-in-law, Mable Turner of High Point, NC; special friends, Shafer Gilliam of Raleigh, NC, Robert Bobb of Buffalo, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
A private funeral service will be held Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Mr. McDowell may be viewed on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
