Obituary For Pauline Rodgers

Pauline Rodgers

Flowers grow and they wither, the sun rises and sets, life begins and it must end, as a seed is planted, grows to fruition and dies that it might live again, so it was with Pauline. Pauline Pointer, daughter of Tennis W. Pointer and Linnie Snyder, both of whom preceded her in death, was born on November 5, 1925 in Danville, Alabama. She blossomed for 95 years and transitioned to life eternal on January 15, 2021.

Pauline and four others were the first graduating class from Rosenwald High School in Moulton, Alabama. Pauline continued her education at the University of Tennessee and became a nurse. Pauline's career in nursing spanned over 30 years.

After earning her degree, Pauline left Tennessee and headed for a better life in Newark, NJ. Not to be left behind, Roy Rodgers joined Pauline Pointer, whom he would later marry. Pauline quickly secured a position at Crippled Children Hospital in Newark, NJ specializing in orthopedics also located in Newark.

Pauline was a devoted member of Abyssinian Baptist Church for more than 30 years. Pauline was a member of the Combined and Southside Mission Circles. Eventually, Pauline would become president of the Southside Mission, a position she held for 9 years. Pauline derived great joy and satisfaction from this position and, more importantly, serving her church family and community.

Those who will be deprived most profoundly of her love and support are her daughters: Gloria, Nedra and Shelby (Christopher); son, William; granddaughters: Yhundra (Philip), Ebony and Melanie; grandsons: Justin (Alicia); great-grandchildren Daiquan, Khalil, Niegel, Lloyd, Lailah, Alyvia and Sean; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews other relatives and dear friends.

There will be a viewing for Mrs. Rodgers on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 11a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Unity Mortuary Chapel for family and friends following a procession to Berry Highland South Memorial Park where Mrs. Rodgers will be laid to rest. Unity Mortuary is honored to serve the Rodgers family. www.unitymortuary1979.com.
