Obituary For Mary Lee Richmond

MARY LEE RICHMOND was born on Friday, June 28, 1946 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Edna Harris and the late Will Harris. Her family relocated to Chicago, Illinois when she was six years old and she received her formal education at Brown and Jenner Elementary Schools and received her Certificate of Graduation in Dover, Pennsylvania.

In 1960, Mary met the late Leroy Brown, Sr. and in 1961, they were married. In the 1970’s, she met and married Allen Hobson of Chicago, Illinois and later Mary relocated to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and there she met and married B. J. Richmond.

She was the loving mother of six children: Stephanie who preceded her in death; Leroy Jr., Maurice, David, Kenneth and Isaiah.

In 1967, Mary accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined Mt. Carmel Holiness Church under the leadership of the late James F. Hargrove. After her relocation to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, she became affiliated with Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ for 10 years. She then became affiliated with the Church of The Living God under Elder Winnie Mosley. She was ordained as a minister and upon the passing of Elder Winnie Mosley, she was appointed by Bishop Ivy A. Hopkins to become the pastor of the former Bright Hope Ministries Church of The Living God. Reverend Mary Richmond founded The Mary Lee Ministries, Inc. and became the chief officer. Having a desire to further her education, she attended Bilingual Bible Institute under Bishop Ivy A. Hopkins and later received her doctorate degree under The Spirit of Faith Empowerment Ministries and Bible College, Inc. Presently she was a member of The Temple of Deliverance Ministries under Senior Pastor Ruth A. Smith.

During her working career; while living in Chicago, she worked for Sears & Roebuck and the Chicago Public Schools. Upon relocating to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, she was an employee of The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue from where she retired.

Mary Lee Richmond, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 24 days, departed this life on January 21, 2021 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Junius “Bobby” Elmore; one of her sisters, Wilma Jean and three of her brothers, Charlie, Henry and James. She leaves to cherish loving memories of her; her five sons, Leroy, Jr., Maurice (Ruth), David, Kenneth and Isaiah; her ten grandchildren; her 23 great-grandchildren; her four step-grandchildren; her two sisters, Rosanna Reed (Pastor Roy, Sr.) of Chicago, Illinois and Mattie Harvey (Elder Calvin, Sr.) of Broadview, Illinois; her brother, Morris Harris of Forest Park, Illinois; her step-sister, Bertha Turner of Chicago, Illinois; her special friends: Dr. Catherine Taylor, Mother Rosie Randolph and the Butts Family; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mary was a loving, giving and caring person. She loved her family and she will be greatly missed.
