Obituary For Sammie Lee Kelly, Sr.

Graveside Service for Mr. Sammie Lee Kelly, Sr. will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Salem United Methodist Church, 5418 Old River Road, Florence, South Carolina. Interment will follow, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

SAMMIE LEE KELLY, SR. was born on May 24, 1944 to the late Mr. Wallace Shields and Josephine Kelly Lewis (Lisha Lewis) in Florence County. He transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina. He attended the Public Schools in Florence County. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in the Claussen Community. SAMMIE LEE was employed at CSX Transportation Railroad for 35 years, which he retired.

SAMMIE LEE was joined in holy matrimony to Barbara Brunson Kelly. To this union, three children were born: Sammie Lee (Boo) Kelly Jr., Michael Kelly and Hazel Kelly.

SAMMIE LEE was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and son, Sammie Lee Kelly, Jr.

SAMMIE LEE leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Michael Kelly of Charlotte, North Carolina; one daughter, Hazel Kelly Rodgers of Georgia; three granddaughters, Jasmine Kelly, Hazel Kelly, Natasha Rodgers; one grandson, Nathaniel Rodgers; siblings, Jessie Walker, Arthur Lewis, Leo (Toni) Lewis, Carrie (Elbert) Keels, Clara Lewis Brockington and Marcus Kelly all of Florence, South Carolina; other siblings, Shirley Hines Johnson, of Florence, South Carolina, Reverend Eugene (Luberta) Shields of Laurinburg, North Carolina, Kay Frances Sackey of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Wallace (Patricia) Shields Jr. of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Bishop Randy Shields of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Reverend Gail (Reverend Kelvin) Cash, of Knoxville, Tennessee, Timothy (Phyllis) Shields of Winston Salem, North Carolina, and Reverend Terry Shields and Kenneth (Kimberly) Shields both of Winston Salem, North Carolina; and a host of other relatives and friends.
