Though our times with Chris were few, we know the thread that runs throughout the wonderful Bear family and are saddened by what our world has lost but are certain heaven can always use another beautiful soul that can not only cook but catch what he cooks! Our prayers and thoughts are with you now and always. Skip, Geri & Shaylah Bishop

This is so very, very sad. The loss of a child is the worst thing imaginable. I wish there were the right words at a time like this but there just aren't. Most Truly, Leslie Frantz

David, Ciaran and I would like send the Bear family our heartfelt condolences. I love the photo of Chris with baby Asher on this page. We knew Chris in London, and that is how he looked when I last saw him, probably in 2011 or 2012. Emily was our flatmate, and Chris joined her in our flat shortly before their wedding. We got to know him, and he and Emily were part of our circle. They even came to our flat to pick up Bob, our dog, to look after him when I went into labour with Ciaran. Chris was so much fun, with a wicked sense of humour and a talent for making decadent and delicious food (these sinful 'butter bomb' mushroom thingies come to mind). Although we hadn't seen him in so long (we moved to a different part of the UK, but I have kept in touch with Emily) we knew of his struggles the last few years and his failing health. I'm so sorry that he had to pass on, but there is peace in his memory and knowing and passing on the memories of who he was, which is more than his illness: a dynamic, foodie, super fun guy who loved his little boy. Condolences, Kristin Leith

I remember playing with Christopher and Lizzy at the beach and staying with your family at your beach house in Duck, NC. He was happy in the sand and ocean. I hope he has found peace now. We send our love.

For Chris, the man who taught me how to cook a mean pork chop, who sang from 'Phantom' in beautiful rich, warm tones and who loved Asher to bits, you will be remembered with much affection and will always be part of our lives. Rest in peace, dear man. For Asher, Carol, Bill, Lizzie and family, at this time of such great sadness and loss, my love and thoughts are with you. Sally (London)

This is a tragedy and sad loss for all of us in Chris' wider family and we send love and comfort to you in this painful time. We treasure the memories of all the good times shared with him - over fine food, adventurous rides and family fun. We'll remember especially his rich cuisine crafted in a cramped kitchen, on a grill in a tiny backyard, or the new spacious kitchen - as well as his famed pulled pork and his baby back ribs sauce. May you cherish these memories too and see his spirit continuing in Asher. Love from Ros and Bill Paterson in New Zealand

Over the years, when our children were growing up, many happy English Christmas dinners (with silly jokes and funny hats), spent with the Bear family. Special memories, and also of one time we met Chris in London. Rest in peace and love Christopher. Celia & Jed
