He confessed his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of West Rocky Ford Missionary Baptist Church.
James was a graduate of J.R. Faison High School in 1968 and then he was drafted into the United States Army and was an active in the Army Reserves until his retirement in 2000. He migrated to High Point, NC where he was employed by Jiffy Manufacturing. He earned a degree from GTCC in Electrical Systems Technology. After meeting Rebecca L. Hall they married and through this union they had two daughters Bernice Mychelle Leak and Jamys Evon Leak (deceased).
During his work career he was a Police officer for the City of Greensboro, NC and a supervisor for Duke Energy until he retired. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, and working on cars to name a few. He was also a member of the Mt. Vernon Mass, Anniversary and Senior Choir.
Surviving to cherish his memories are his wife Rebecca L. Leak; daughter Bernice Mychelle Leak; brother Roosevelt Leak Jr. (Elise) of Jersey City, NJ; sister Mary Lillie Leak of Morven, NC; sisters in law Gracie Gyant of Fayetteville, NC; Margaret Hall and Mary Hall both of High Point, NC; brothers in law Willie Sylvester Hall, Bennie Clinton both of High Point, NC; brother in law Willie Frazier Jr of Plainfield, NJ; granddaughters Donya Myia Mychelle Shelf, Keyonna Ja'Leak Pickenpack and Jakenzie Rebecca Pickenpack all from High Point, NC; nieces Alberta Frazier of Plainfield, NJ and nieces Leticia Nicole Leak, Mezedo Latrease Leak, LaSheka Denae Leak and LaToya Shuntae Leak all of whom he helped to raise along with a host of nieces, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A private funeral service will be held Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. Mr. Leak may be viewed on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM.
