Obituary For David Johnson, Jr.

The Governor of South Carolina advises to limit public gatherings to 50 guests or less to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Private Funeral Service for Mr. David Nathianel Johnson, Jr. will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, February 13, 2021 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 South Johns Street, Florence, South Carolina. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

David Nathianel Johnson, Jr. was born to the late David Johnson, Sr. and Mary Eliza Johnson on August 26, 1953 in Florence, South Carolina. His birth was a joyous occasion. On Friday, February 5, 2021, a trumpet was blown, and the angel carried him to his Heavenly Home.

The family moved to Miami, Florida in his early age and he attended Miami Dade Public Schools. He relocated to Florence, South Carolina to continue his education and graduated from South Florence High School.

David accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Johnson. After relocating to Florence, South Carolina, he joined Goodland African Methodist Episcopal Church and continued his walk with God, until his health declined.

He was intelligent, talented, and artistic. According to the I Q Standardized Intelligence Testing David was one point from being a genius.

David was a people’ person. He enjoyed sports, dancing, telling jokes helping others, and was very respectful. He loved the Lord. His favorite gospel artist was Lee Williams. His favorite saying was “God’s grace and mercy, you pray for me, and I’ll pray for you.”

He loved all of his family. There was a special love in his heart for Carolyn White, Rosetta Joe, Lucille Johnson, and a very special aunt Maggie McAllister, who was a mother to him.

David sisters’ were jewels of his heart and his heart was their jewel.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Johnson, Sr; his mother, Mary Eliza Johnson; a brother, Edward Johnson; and a sister, Janet Readon.

David leaves to mourn and cherish his memories: his loving sisters, Alice (Ernest) Brunson of Florence, South Carolina, Shirley (Emmette) Stanley, Coretha (Elder Edward, Jr.) Brown, Grace Weeks, and Catherine Johnson all of Miami, Florida; nine nephews, Allen (Belinda) Weeks, Creighton (April) Weeks, Demetrius (Tangela) Weeks, Issachar Weeks, Monteze (Shecba) Stanley, Brenton Williams, Edwann (Barbara) Brown, Jedidiah (Trittney) Brown, and Lenny Brunson; three nieces, Therese Stanley, Ny’eild Waiters, and Shondell Hardy; fifteen great nephews and nieces; one great great-nephew; one great great-niece; three uncles; five aunts; and a host of cousins; other relatives; and friends.
