Obituary For Samuel L. (Sam) McClendon

Samuel L. McClendon (Sam) was born on November 19, 1949, in Terrell, Georgia to Willie Dean McClendon, Sr. and Essie Mae McClendon.

Sam attended the public schools of Pinellas County and was a graduate of Largo High School, Class of 1969. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Largo, Florida and was employed with Big C. Steele, retiring after 43 years of service.

Sam was a champion bowler and was known as the horseshoe king. He had a heart for his family and loved spending time with them.

Samuel L. McClendon departed this life on February 4, 2021, Largo, Florida.

Smith (Ethel) of New Jersey, Reverend Willie D. McClendon (Lois), Charlie Will McClendon (Angela), Bennie Will McClendon (Elizabeth) and Michael A. McClendon, all of Largo, FL Sisters: Daisy P. Beal, Clementine Miller, Mary A. McClendon and Essie R. McClendon, all of Largo, FL Brother and sisters-in-law: William Pride (Yvonne) of Dothan, AL, Bessie Byrdsong of Detroit, MI, Linda Pride and Bernice Williams, both of Largo, FL

Best friends: Harry Preston and Johnny Smith; Special nieces that took care of him until the end: Delisha Pride and Toccara Rhone.

Public Viewing will be Thursday 2/11 (5P - 7P) at Smith-Young's Funeral Home 1005 Howard Street Clearwater, FL 33756. Home Going Services will be Friday 2/12 (12P) at First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks 12685 Ulmerton Rd, Largo, FL 33774.

Sam and I worked together for 44 years. Sam had a brilliant math mind and could make problems go away. We became very close through the years and would sit and talk for hours. I'll miss my good and great friend. I know he loved Barbara more than anything ever and his family. He will look over us all.
