Obituary For John A. Hines, Sr.

Graveside Service for Mr. John Albert Hines, Sr. will be conducted 1:00 PM Monday, February 15, 2021 at Mount Rona Baptist Church Cemetery, Friendfield Road, Effingham, South Carolina. Interment will follow directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC. Mr. John Albert Hines, Sr., the son of the late Elisha and Hattie Hines was born on May 13, 1931 in Florence County. He departed his earthly life for his Heavenly home on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at McLeod Hospice House after an illness.

John Albert attended Florence County Public Schools. He was employed by Coburg Dairy and later retired from Shaw Lumber Company, after many years of service. He was also a well-known carpenter that enjoyed working with his hands.

John Albert accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age and joined Salem United Methodist Church, where he was a lifetime member. He served as a member of the Gospel, Mass and Senior Choirs. He also served as Treasurer for the United Methodist Men and member of the Usher Board.

On February 27, 1955, John Albert married Annie Lee Pickens and to this union four children were born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Annie Lee Pickens Hines; three sisters, Mazie Abraham, Sara Gregg, and Eva M. Bartell; and one brother, Henry Hines.

John Albert leaves to cherish his precious memories: two sons, John Albert Jr. (Mary) Hines and James (Annie Mae) Hines both of Effingham, South Carolina; two daughters, Aza Lee Williams of Batesburg, South Carolina and Lucinda Hines of the home; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren who loved their Papa dearly; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.

Mr. John Albert Hines, Sr. enjoyed making people laugh and smile. He will always be remembered for his inspiring bass-baritone vocals that was loved and enjoyed by many.
