Obituary For Hattie Pearl Fason Mobley 78

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. ~ Psalms 116:15

It is at this time, that the Harrington Funeral Home Inc; pause with the remaining loved ones left cherishing the precious memories of:

HATTIE PEARL MOBLEY to announce that the sunset of her life came on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.

Hattie Pearl Fason Mobley was an extraordinarily beloved and impactful mother, wife, sister, educator, and counselor to thousands.

She was born in Valdosta, Georgia in 1942 as one of Henry and Katie Mae Fason’s ten children. She matriculated through the Valdosta school system and attended Pinevale High School where she was a cheerleader and an actress in dramas and plays. She attended Savannah State College where she worked in the library while majoring in business education. While at Savannah State, she joined the Delta Nu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. After her undergraduate studies, she went on to earn a master’s degree in business education from Florida A&M University and a master’s degree in counseling from Valdosta State University.

She married Thomas Carmichael Mobley of Madison, Florida in 1965 who was then a sergeant in the United States Air Force stationed at Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She began her teaching in Fort Walton Beach, and continued her teaching career in Miami after the family moved there. Soon after, daughter Veta Maria was born, followed five years later by son Cedric Demond. The family later moved back to Valdosta, and Pearl taught in the Lakeland, Moultrie, and Valdosta, Georgia school systems. She was a beloved business education teacher and later guidance counselor at Valdosta High School. It is perhaps at Valdosta High School where she had her greatest impact, guiding thousands of students through their academic schedules, tracking their progress, counseling them through challenges, and showing them how to reach their hopes and dreams. A longtime advisor for the PAMS Club (Personality, Appearance, Manners, and Scholarship) she believed that everyone should have the opportunity to succeed, and she demanded that everyone she loved give their best at all times.

Hattie Pearl grew up as an active member of First Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was later an early member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Valdosta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she has served as an officer. She loved flowers and plants, and with her husband cultivated a yard so beautiful the Valdosta Daily Times named it “Yard of the Month.” She was a treasure to scores of classmates, sorority sisters, and lifetime friends. A surrogate mom to many, especially her nieces and nephews and the friends of her children, she was a fierce defender of her extended family and an unyielding champion of their aspirations. Her impact extends across the world, as her former students have used the values she taught them to build careers, raise solid families, and make a lasting and positive difference in their communities.

Her legacy lives on through her husband, Thomas Carmichael Mobley; daughter Dr. Veta Maria Mobley Johnson and son-in-law Roland Johnson of Tallahassee, FL; son Cedric Demond Mobley and daughter-in-law Jenill Jackson Mobley of McDonough, Georgia; grandson Jayland Alexander Johnson; sisters Grace Dudley, Catherine Fason, and Ruby Lee Washington; brothers and sisters-in-law Matthew Mobley, Mosely Lee Barfield, Dr. Ray and Donna Mobley, Jerry and Ann Mobley, Willie Mobley, and Frank and Ruby Mobley; and host of beloved nieces, nephews, special friends, and neighbors. Waiting to welcome her into Heaven are her father and mother, Henry and Katie Mae Fason; granddaughter Noelle Johnson; sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy Mitchell (Henry), Ida Mae Smith (Johnny), and Velma Fason; and brothers James Fason, Isaiah Fason, Melvin Fason; and Johnny Fason; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandparents and other family members.
