Irma Lee Ellis

Irma Lee Ellis "Dool" was born August 10, 1933 in West, MS to Will and Melinda Allen. She departed this life February 18, 2021.

Irma's education started early as a child at Stone Hill, a small school located north of the (Joe B) Homestead, the second school was Rocky Point School, all in Attala County.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband Henderson Ellis, two sons, Allen Ellis and Daniel Ellis, her deceased siblings Hubert (Inaa Clara) Allen of Chicago, Il, Will (Cora Allen) of Milwaukee, WI, Retha Prymer, Elsteen Allen, Charles Allen, Vernice Allen, and two great grandchildren all of West, MS.

She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Rockhill Church of God, and faithfully worked for our state campground at Farm Haven, MS. Later she moved her membership to St. Joseph Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Johnny Forrest.

Affectionately known as "Dool" to all the older people and Maw Maw to all the younger generation.

She was a devoted wife, mother, home-mother, and loved her children dearly. Her passions were flowers, making quilts, artwork, gardening, fishing, canning, a beautician and spending quality time with her family and attending church.

Irma married Henderson Ellis in 1955. This union was blessed with eight children. Lawrence (Lillie) Ellis, GA; Luther (Adrienne) Ellis, AR; Edna (James) Love, Quince (Robert) Martin, Joe Ellis, Yvon Ellis all of West, MS. She raised several of her husband sisters and brothers.

Later, a special new baby was added for her to love as her own, Julian Allen.

She grew up in a large family. She leaves two siblings, a dear sister Lucille (Clayton) Thornton, West, MS; and a special baby brother Willie James (Maxine) Allen from Powell, TN.

She leaves to cherish her memories: Lawrence (Lillie) Ellis, Edna (James) Love, Quince (Robert) Martin, Luther (Adrienne) Ellis, Joe Ellis, and Yvon Ellis. One sister Lucille Thornton, one brother, James Allen, twenty six grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, four sisters-in-law: Fannie Brister, Maxine Allen, Ina Clara, Ruby Lee Davis London, one brother-in-law, Jerry Ellis.
