My Aunt Virginia was truly a very special person! This was abundantly apparent to all us Lawrence's when she first came to visit us in Durham. Our family always loved the times she and "Uncle Ed", and eventually John II and Jason would visit. There is no doubt that if it weren't for Aunt Virginia & Uncle Ed (John), I nor my daughter Mindy would have realized the wonderful experience of attending Florida A&M University. They made us feel like Tallahassee was truly our home while we were there. Aunt Virginia & "Unc" were also inspirational role models for my wife and I, certainly educationally, but also in demonstrating the requirements of a happy and successful marriage. We will be forever indebted to them. Anyone who had the opportunity to know Virginia Ruth Landers Lawrence on any level was truly blessed. We will always treasure our many fond memories of her! May she rest in peace and receive all the rewards of heaven for a "JOB WELL DONE"! Michael Lawrence Melinda Lawrence Morgan Lawrence

I had the honor of working with Virginia in the Curriculum Department. There was no finer person one could wish to know and work with. One could always trust her to give her best and her all. Life would be so much better if there were more Virginias for people to emulate. I will always remember her with respect and gratitude for having known her. Lissi Spencer

I was honored to spend time with Virginia on a cruise to Alaska for she and John's 40th wedding anniversary. She was and is a delightful, fun loving, witty person; and a great listener too. There is so much that I am going to miss about our friendship;but I will continue that friendship in my heart.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence visited Durham and attended services at John's home church. She was so friendly and we felt like she was part of our family She and my mother shared many phone calls and laughs. She was a nice lady and never acted like a visitor. Durham will miss her too.

Forty seven years ago I had the privilege of first being inspired by this smart, witty, talented, loving woman. As a brand new teacher interning with Virginia I gained the first glimmers of her wisdom that became life lessons that I still carry through my life. Getting to know her remarkable children and be guided by her husband's insight's have been long-lasting gifts as well. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of Virginia's presence beside you but also celebrate the life of this enduring spirit that will never really leave any of us.
