Mary Ollie Moore Henderson Celebration of Life
“For those who follow Godly paths will rest in peace when they die!” Isaiah 57:2 “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s Love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s Love!” Roman’s 8:38
Mary Ollie Moore Henderson, affectionately known as “MaDear” and “Bunch” was born November 23, 1938 to Harrison Jones Sr. and Claudie Mae Andrews. One of 10 children, Mary learned to love the Lord at a young age and understood the power of prayer.
“The Lord is my Shepherd…Psalm 23:1 - Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4
MaDear was an amazing person! She lived for over 50 years with a bullet lodged in her brain that left her paralyzed on the left side of her body. However, this did not stop her from caring for her nine children, including carrying the youngest to a full-term pregnancy and delivery. Additionally, she raised her 2 oldest Grandchildren, totaling 11 Children she personally cared for…!
Although paralyzed, MaDear was EXTREMELY independent and did not allow ANYONE to do ANYTHING for her. She was a Homemaker in the true sense of the word: cooking, cleaning, sewing, doing laundry and paying bills for her family. She made sure her children were neat and combed the girl’s hair everyday. MaDear also loved taking care of her grandchildren. When visiting, you would often see her putting her grandbaby’s to sleep by gently rocking them on her lap (also passed down to her great grandkids as well).
MaDear had the sweetest heart and enjoyed spending time with her family. Sunday’s and holidays were her favorite. She knew that family would come together to reminisce about growing up in Ritta Village and spending summers in Alabama and she loved hearing and telling these stories. During these family events, her children and grandchildren would often invite friends. She welcomed their friends immediately and they became family. MaDear loved everyone and it showed through her smile, laughter, and conversations.
Never bitter, the family’s prayer warrior had unwavering faith. She believed that God would make a way when it seemed like there was no way, and she was always right. She also believed in helping others and instilled this in all of her children.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
MaDear recovered from three comas over her lifetime. Each time the doctors said she was not going to make it. But God! She recovered from meningitis twice. But God! She survived two strokes. But God! At the age of 82, with all of her health issues, she beat Covid-19. But God!
MaDear loved her siblings, children, and grandchildren immensely. We thank God for Sunday, February 14, 2021, our last visit with our mom. Like the many Sundays of years past, we were able to surround her with love.
On Saturday, February 20, 2021, God gave our Angel, Mary Ollie Moore Henderson, her wings to make the journey towards eternal life. We thank God for 82 years of grace and mercy.
“Jesus turned and said to them, do not weep for me…” Luke 23:28
