Timothy Eric Whitney, Jr. Esq.

On the morning of Monday, February 8, 2021, Timothy Eric Whitney, Jr. Esq., 80, of Virginia Beach, VA, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia just two days after his beloved wife, Janice B. Whitney.

Timothy was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, the second of six children of the late Lurnetta Anita Whitney and Timothy Eric Whitney, Sr. He was a 1959 graduate of Lincoln High School in Jersey City, NJ. While at Lincoln High, Timothy was an All-Star athlete participating in baseball, track & field and swimming. He especially loved and excelled at playing basketball. He attended Howard University in Washington, DC where he participated in ROTC and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting. After graduating, Timothy joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Springfield, IL and Wichita Falls, TX where he served as Captain and helped develop the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile System.

He returned to New Jersey in the summer of 1970. After earning his Juris Doctorate from Rutgers University Law School, Timothy worked as a Public Defender for the State of New Jersey. He practiced law for many years until retiring to Virginia Beach, Virginia. Timothy enjoyed spending time with family, watching war documentaries, collecting clown figurines, building computers and traveling. Timothy also volunteered for the NAACP, wrote and self-published a vocabulary book and invented a few gadgets. Additionally, he was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans.

For over 40 years, Timothy was a devoted husband to Janice Baker Whitney who he lovingly called her, “Jan”. He was the father of seven children, Therese Blair (Stephen) of Edison, NJ; Timolyn Tillman (Lance) of Virginia Beach, VA; Tama Crawford (Timothy) of Portsmouth, VA; Tiffany Whitney of Virginia Beach, VA; Timothy Whitney III of Virginia Beach, VA; Troy Whitney, Sr. (Sherry) of Edison, NJ and the late Jennifer Whitney. He was also a loving stepfather to Karl Ginyard (Alisa) of Durham, NC and Kenneth Ginyard (Belena) of Woodland, CA.

In addition to his children and stepchildren, Timothy leaves to cherish memories of him; his sister, Barbara Mae Penn; his brother, John Baylor Whitney (Elizabeth);, his sisters-in-law Eleanor Whitney, Marion Whitney, Barbara Harris (Ray), Marvin Mitchell, Annette Gee (William), Blinda Bradley (Irv) and Carolyn Holmes (Earl) and one brother-in-law, William Baker; his 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends. In addition to his parents and daughter, Timothy’s three brothers, Raymond Howard Whitney, Kenneth Arthur Whitney and Thomas Edward Whitney preceded him in transitioning into eternal life..
