Crawford Mack (Yank) was born on February 1, 1949 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Otis Scott and Eva Mack Joel. Yank was the fifth child of Eva’s joining his sibling Douglas Ross, Opal Ross-Evans, Eustis Blakey, Scott Mack, Juliet Thomas, and Oneva Bridges. Crawford (Yank) graduated from Archer High School in 1968 and soon after enlisted in the U. S. Airforce and was stationed in Idaho. He achieved the rank of staff sergeant E5 while serving in the mobile Radar Division. Crawford (Yank) also served in the Vietnam War and was stationed in Pleku Vietnam. He completed his four years of service in 1972. Shortly after Yank began his career at Atlantic steel, working his way up from a brick mason to a steel pourer. There he cultivated many lifelong friendships with his coworkers. While serving in the military Crawford (Yank) meet and married Glenda Bowen. He was married to Glenda Bowen -Mack for 26 years. From this union they had four children Ayana, Radiah, Deanna and Darius. They remained close friends with each other over the years. Often helping one another whether it be around the house or fixing up a car Yank was always there. As a father Yank always expressed love for his children. His motto slogan was I want you to grow up and be ten times better than me. Crawford was known for creating nicknames (love names) for all his family. Ayana his “Blimp Stimp”, Radiah his “Puttin’ Nut”, Deanna his “Lover”, and Darius his “Stick Stunior/ Peace Maker”. After raising his kids Crawford (Yank) became the ever-devoted grandfather. He had a way of making each and every grandchild feel loved and special in a unique way. He picked no favorites but made them all feel like they were. He took the time out to teach them and pass down whatever knowledge he had. Whether it be how to fix cars, how to fix things around the house, or just how to be amazing men and women. Most importantly he taught them how to love, and that family was the most important thing in the world. When he walked in the room, they all lined up for their forehead kisses and hugs. Shomari (Frog), Takiyah (Sweet Pea), Imani (Money Money), Hassan (Cashes Clay), Derrick (The Professor), Orean (ReRe), Amber (Miss Rae), Elijah (Stick Stunior Junior), and David (Grandad’s Little Helper). Even the little ones Emmanuel, Olivia, and Joanna learned quickly that grandad’s foreheads kisses were magical. Crawford (Yank) was preceded in death by his grandfather, Tom Mack; mother, Eva Mack Joel; father, Otis Scott; sisters, Juliet Thomas, Oneva Bridges; brothers, Eustis Blakey, Scott Mack; niece Gail Thomas; grandchildren, Ciara Mack, Emily Allen and David Mack.
