Obituary For David Currie

David Currie was born on February 24, 1934 in Rowland, NC to the late Laura Lee Currie Thompson. He went peacefully from labor to reward on February23, 2021 a few hours shy of his 87th birthday. He was educated in the Robeson County Schools System. On September 19, 1960 he married Queen Esther Israel, and to this union five children were born, Eric, Marcia (Nina), James, Beaulah and Samuel. David came to Greensboro in 1958 and found work at Wesley Long Hospital in the Dietary Department. Later, he began work at Carolina Steel where he worked for almost 30 years and retired in 1993. Not ready to fully retire, he started working at Hooker Furniture in Pleasant Garden where he continued for several years. Subsequently he worked at Guilford County Schools as a custodian and in the evenings, he cleaned a building at Color Works. He completely retired in 2008. David was a quiet man, but was the first to offer help when needed. His passion was sitting on the porch, watching cars and people go by. David was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Queen Esther, one son, James David, grandson James David, Jr., two sisters, Earnestine Thompson, Bernice Bullard and five brothers, Albert, Vonsa, Earnest and Ellsworth Thompson and Willie Glen Currie. He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Marcia (Nina) Currie and Beaulah Miller, two sons, Eric (Emily) and Samuel Currie,eight grandchildren, Jessica, Eric Jr., Joel, Jasmine, Jashawn, Jamez, Samiya and Samuel Jr. and one great grandchild who will arrive May 2021, Ja’cie Dream Currie, two brothers, James L. Thompson and John R. Thompson of Winston-Salem, NC, two sisters, Hattie Mae Jacobs of Pembroke, NC and Mary Nancy (William) Comer of Winston-Salem, NC, two brothers-in-law, Archie (Elaine) Israel of Silver. Spring, Maryland and Martin (Webster) Israel of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, two sisters-in- law Eva Lois Thompson of Rowland, NC and Adele Israel of Baltimore, MD., devoted cousins, Thurman and Virginia Taylor and Mary Kate Gillespie, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2021, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM in the Cassie Coote-Brown Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Lakeview Memorial Park.
